The State of Charter School Governance: 2021

On March 31, join experts from Charter School Growth Fund, NACSA, and BoardOnTrack to discuss the results of our second-annual Charter School Governance Index.

Last year, our first-ever Charter School Governance Index revealed four surprising trends that were a wake-up call for charter school CEOs and board members alike.

  1. To be effective, charter school boards must get aligned on their priorities. What people named as their top governance priorities was starkly different depending on their role on the governance team.
  2. Charter school CEOs and board members were unified in a focus on increasing board member engagement and productivity.
  3. Recruiting and onboarding new board members were paramount primarily to CEOs & board chairs.
  4. Board members and CEOs needed better board meetings. Board chairs didn’t see it this way.
